About Judy M. King

I am an artist with a camera. My novelty-loving rebellious streak seeks out odd subjects, enjoys unusual photographic techniques, and makes unconventional cropping decisions. Although I can capture the pretty, I prefer to show the slightly disturbing and off-kilter. My multipanel images tell stories and make comparisons. Not for traditionalists, my intentionally challenging artistic, creative work demands that you, the active viewer, make an effort.

I am inspired by:
  • Mark Rothko (color)
  • Diane Arbus and H.R. Giger (darkness)
  • Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (cropping)
  • Victor Vasarely and Iris van Herpen (precision)
  • Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry (shapes)
  • George Carlin (words)
  • Tracey Ullman (chameleon)

Rejoicing in color, I'm something of a performance artist. Clothes, accessories, and costumes allow me to make short-term alterations to my persona. They let me play and reveal sometimes-hidden facets of my personality.
