About Judy M. King

I am an artist with a camera. My novelty-loving rebellious streak seeks out odd subjects, enjoys unusual photographic techniques, and makes unconvenional cropping decisions. Although I can capture the pretty, I prefer to show the slightly disturbing and off-kilter. My multipanel images tell stories and make comparisons. Not for traditionalists, my intentionally challenging artistic, creative work demands that you, the active viewer, make an effort.

Rejoicing in color, I'm something of a performance artist. Clothes and accessories allow me to make short-term alterations to my persona. Some of the work you'll see on this page is of me in costume. It is a way for me to play and reveal sometimes-hidden facets of my personality.

I am inspired by:
  • Mark Rothko (color)
  • Diane Arbus and H.R. Giger (darkness)
  • Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (cropping)
  • Victor Vasarely and Iris van Herpen (precision)
  • Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry (shapes)
  • George Carlin (words)
