Abstracts

As a child, I enjoyed spotting people, animals and objects in cloud formations. It was a creative pursuit with no wrong answers. Interpreting abstracts is similar only there are more colors, shapes and textures to look at.
For me, lively colors, high-contrast (e.g., extreme black and white) and bold graphic shapes are exciting. A profusion of embellishments and textures make me curious. Gradients, neutral colors and pastels soothe me.

Crop a circle and you may create a sense of lyrical movement. The image becomes more abstract and minimal. It teases the viewer by suggesting that there is more outside the frame and stimulates imagination and interest. Whether the subjects are monochrome or color, smooth or textured, cropped circles are the harmonizing element in this series. Created between 2017 and 2025, each image cuts confining closed curves of still life objects and architecture.

Rim Shadow
Many of my images illustrate Bible verses. "Mortals, born of woman, are of few days and full of trouble. They spring up like flowers and wither away; like fleeting shadows, they do not endure."
- Job 14:1-2 (NIV)
Rim lighting is rather common in photography. The rare rim shadow on this human cutout is ephemeral and requires discernment, like the detection of a short-lived or secret life.
